Frequently asked questions

  • How long will it take to switch to TalkTalk Business Broadband?

After choosing your broadband package you can expect your complete service to typically 'go live' within 2 weeks.

  • Will there be any 'downtime' when I join TalkTalk Business?

You should experience little or no downtime during the switchover. We will keep you up to date with the latest progress and let you know when you're going to be offline. This shouldn't be more than a couple of hours on the day of the switchover.

  • What happens if I currently have broadband with a cable provider?

We can only provide broadband to customers who have a non-cable landline and number. If you currently have broadband with a cable provider, then you can have a new line installed by a BT Openreach engineer through TalkTalk Business.

  • Will my line rental switch to TalkTalk Business?

With our Simply and Complete packages, we switch your broadband and line rental to TalkTalk Business, so you'll only get one bill each month. Once your new service is active we will bill you for both your line rental and calls. Your previous provider will then send you a credit for any unused line rental you've already paid for. We will take responsibility for your line although we still use experienced BT Openreach engineers for any faults.

  • Can I get broadband in my area?

These days a very high percentage of businesses can get broadband – use our online availability checker to see what services are available, and the anticipated speed for your line.

  • What happens if I am still in contract with another provider?

You will probably be charged a cancellation fee by your current provider for leaving your contract. You might decide to leave regardless, as the cost of this fee will be quickly offset by the savings on our unbeatable broadband packages. Please consult the terms and conditions of your contract when leaving your current provider. Before the end of your contract, just contact us and give us your MAC code details and you will go live with TalkTalk Business Broadband within weeks. Please bear in mind that we will contact you a few times by letter, email and phone to get your MAC code on time so that your broadband go-live date is not delayed. If you have decided to stay with your current provider and stay in the TalkTalk Business Broadband queue, then please ignore these communications.

  • I'm currently with another broadband provider, can I move to TalkTalk Business?

Most businesses with an existing broadband connection can transfer their service over to TalkTalk Business. You are only a few clicks away from checking - select the product you would like on this website, and then enter your telephone number and postcode into the Availability Checker.

  • I have an alarm system that uses my phone line. Can I join TalkTalk Business?

Most alarm systems are compatible with the TalkTalk Business network. To check if TalkTalk Business broadband will work on your line, please select the product you would like on this website, and then enter your telephone number and postcode into the Availability Checker. This will confirm if you can have TalkTalk Business broadband on your line, and also what packages are available to you.

  • I have Featureline on my line, can I join TalkTalk Business?

In most cases you can switch to TalkTalk Business. As the provisioning process is a little more complicated and may take a little longer, we would ask you to call our sales team or open a chat from the “Need help” box.

  • What do I need to join TalkTalk Business?

To check if you are within our network area, please select the product you would like on this website, and then enter your telephone number and postcode into the Availability Checker. If you don’t have an existing landline, there is an option to enter the postcode of your premises so that we can install a new line. If you decide to order TalkTalk Business Broadband, you'll also need your bank or building society account number and sort code to set up your Direct Debit.

  • What is a Static IP address?

A static IP address is a fixed number that is assigned to your broadband connection. When you log on to the Internet your IP address is like your home address or telephone number. It identifies who you are. A Static IP address, in comparison to a Dynamic IP Address, means that your connection will always be in the same location on the internet making it easier to run a web or e-mail server or similar internet resource.

  • How do I set up my Static IP Address?

All TalkTalk Business broadband connections have the option of a Static IP address without charge, a fixed address on the Internet that will always be assigned to your router when it connects rather than a random one. If you require a Static IP address then please contact Customer Services and they will add one to your account. You can have up to 4 static IP addresses depending on your package.
